AUDITIONS! Being Held At Mineral Area College

mood: energetic
So I have completed the short, the writing is horrendous, but I am confident that I can pull it off. The school, which I mean Mr. Giles, said that I could use the school for equipment, rooms, and even putting the audition flyers up. As of right now they are being held next Tuesday at Mineral Area after school so about 2:30 till whenever. I'm hoping to borrow some camera or even to use my camera and film some of it. It would be great.

The short is set in the future after Alice is captured and Kira is sentenced to death. Alice breaks free and is on the loose. She kills and slaughters to try to get Kira back, but then is shot by the cops. I'll leave the ending open for right now. When it is over then I hopefully can post more.

The cameras at school are the mini DV type and there is no wireless mike hook up, but I was assured that the sound and lighting is great for it. They have some lighting and some sound. I'm going to make a list and hopefully get some equivalent equipment. Since I am lacking in the knowledge though I may see if Shawn from the school wants to help by being the DP for the short. I'm really thinking about using McCleid as the DP on my feature. He sounds good in his writings at least. He already understands that it's free work no pay. So why not.

Typing It Out

Short Comings

mood: hopeful

So I was writing the short and already I'm at about ten pages. Now that is hand written so it is a bit shorter when I'm typing it out. I took some pictures of a rose sitting on a grave to try to get a more realistic picture in my mind for the poster ideas that I have. So far the pictures are crap and it was too dark for it to come out right. In Script format my pitch treatment is not bad. I think that it need less work than the actual script, but it's coming along nicely. As soon as I'm done writing this one I will hold auditions for this short. The complete intention is to get investors with it so it needs to be decent.

I gave my Within the Woods shorts to Dani and Steven. That is so they get an idea of what a pitch treatment for investors is like. Now don't get me wrong Within the Woods is extremely horrible, but it gets the idea across. I'm hoping that steven really gets the ability to get a editing booth over at his school, otherwise I may have to get permission from school. We'll see how this goes.

Working on Treatment Short

With the full-length script almost finished, I decided it was time to create a 30 minute or so treatment short. Something that I can take to investers. The next step after filming this incredibly cheap short, will be to get investers. I think that I will need to buy some dressy clothes. I will also need to bring someone impressive with me as a backup in case I choke. It is so much easier to pitch something if someone is backing you up. I think the thirty minute short will have the same theme as my movie, serial killers. I think that it will remain female and maybe make her an escaped mental patient like the urban legends. I real excited that I'm taking another step in the right direction. With the treament I will get advice on it the best I can from my script consultant Dani. So far her advice has been invaluable. That is why I wanted to buy her a t-shirt. We'll see how that goes, because I will also be saving up for a trip short and sweet.

I wanted to create a writing getaway for myself. I'm hoping with that, that I will get a chance to realize my characters better and to really get down into the nitty-gritty of the script. Also it will be a chance to see if I can be alone for that amount of time. There are so many times that I desperately think that I can not spend time alone with out a movie, but I will now find out. I need to set a focus to finish something everyday. Including my homework for school too. I haven't started on any of my honors projects and I really need to start on them.

Also I have been trying to come up with other script titles. Alice is going to be used my Sarah Michelle Gellars remake of the video game by the same name. So with that I will be focusing my sights on that as well. I'm also lending my Within the Woods shorts to Steven O' Neal and Dani A. Camden. So hopefully they will get an idea on how I want my short to be done.

Theme and Script

mood: irritated at the download

I was talking with Steven O' Neal about some changes I would like him to make on the theme music. He obliged like the gentleman that he is and the music came to life on his laptop. We took one of the chorus sounds and changed it to piano and it cam out beautifully. I am really excited about how this is coming out.

Dani has finally finished consulting on the script version three. I will revise again and give her version four as quickly as I can. Also if I'm not finished by summer I will take one week hiatus from the world and go to a bed and breakfast and make a personal writing retreat for myself. I'm going to have to save up to do it, but I think spending time to myself and my thoughts working on nothing but my movie will do me good. I've asked my friedn from Arnold, Art to audition for a part, because I remember how well he acts and the impact that he makes on his characters. I hope that I can cast him in a part.

 Additional to this I am going to try to place some music on my page here, so I hope that you like this tiny bit produced by my Music Supervisor Steven O'Neal and Company.

Watching Movies

Perkins' 14 & Voices

mood: amused
I went to Horrofest III, today. It was great the movies were fantastic. I was sporting my new hair cut and I was able to purchase a good directing book. Today was not at all unproductive. I have to go work on some homework next, but I really had a good time. Perkins' 14 was shot too dark, it was hard to see. But I think that they did a great job of creating the personalities that they did. Also in Voices, which was subtitled, it was another multiple personality type movie. It was genius! FULL HAMMER!

Getting The Word Out

Today was the first day of school for me. As part of my move into the movie business I have told everyone that I am looking to direct a film called ALICE. This is great because in college students are always interested in helping with movies. Also I got another audition on Massify possibly. She defintely looks the part. There will be more to come on that too. For now I will get to my homework, then get to formatting my script some more.

Unravelling Reel

I spent some time today deciding if the scenes in the script are okay in the order that they are. I think that I want to move the scene 16 to after 6 but I guess I'll have to think hard, becasue scene sixteen is with Zack and Devon moving his moves to his truck which is supposed to happen at a later date. So maybe I can rewrite what is said to make it make sense. But then I also rewrote scene 3 again which is the scene with the graveyard and Devon first meet up with Alice. I think that what I have this time through is more casual than forced. I like the way it feels better too. I will show my dad on Saturday.

Today, I also completed one poster idea. It's a rose with blood splattered on it. It was supposed to be just a droplet but it didn't look right. Then I designed it two ways. One is with ALICE out to the side more and the other is with ALICE on the rose. I like both. Maybe some outside opinions would help.

Writing Time

Formatting Fonaza

I spent most of today modifying my script to the CELTX program that I found on a website. It's a great program for script writers of any sort. I worked with my dad yesterday on some of the script changes that I made. We are nearly half way through my script now. He wanted to create another script. It is amazing that my father and I love the same things for so long we butted heads on everything and now we are partners in the most important thing in my life. I've set up most of my script in the computer, but transfer it over is more tedious than it is about real work. I watched how KEVIN SMITH had done similar things with rewriting his scripting. He also was journaling how it went along. Which is where I got the idea from. I'm still working on a title, but I think for now that Alice is okay.

I'm working on posters for my movie also. I have a couple of ideas and I want to flesh them out a bit. I may even place them on MASSIFY.COM just so I can get some feedback. I will most likely get people from work's opinions, also. It's easy to include them now that I know most of them now. Also since school is starting soon, I will have students looking into this also. I have a INTRO TO THEATER class, too, that should be helpful. Excitement is buzzing for me. I enjoy the preproduction scuffle.

Wonderland, Alice

Start of a new year and my mind is completely focused on my film. The great part is my intentions are to blog from point A to point Z on the film making that I want to do. First off, anyone who reads this should check out my Massify page at address http://www.massify.com/profiles/horrorchic . Horrorchic has been my long standing name on many websites, but I'm thinking of a stage name of Sarah Slaughter. It's a real last name too; I actually had a customer with that name.

The film that I am making is going to be called Alice. This is a working title, but it has already changed from Asylum to Alice. The main character is about Alice... big surprise huh? I'm on the fifth official rewrite of the script and currently have a script consultant looking at draft 4. Her name is Dani A. Camden. She is the author of a great book called Vampire Slayer and the current creator of web-page www.freewebs.com/rubberfeetgirls . Check this out, it's great.

I looked into locations today for my script. Today was Alice's House. I found three great looking houses, but only two of them I was in pursuit of so far. The first is by the SONIC in town and it's a rundown house that the owners are trying to tear down. Luck has it that they were forced to stop because of injuries. This house is not very hopeful. The second building is owned by the local hospital. I will try to talk with them on Monday to get more information on it. The problem with the second location is that it is near a main road so it may be a bit noisy, especially since the hospital is right there too.

Well, there will be more to come. Since at least this year I plan on blogging updates as often as possible. And in the future I should have sample writings like on my massify page. Also I'm hoping to remodel my myspace page or destroy it and start over. It will suck because of the friends that I have but I'm sure they will friend me again.
